ECONOMIC INCENTIVES FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF SCIENTIFIC EQUIPMENT SHARED SERVICES CENTERS
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
It is shown that construction and maintenance of experimental facilities cost savings is not always a sufficient incentive for cooperation of scientific equipment users. If they compete on the “market” of experimental research, their consolidation does not guarantee the growth of the cooperative members’ total profit. Using a model of Cournot oligopoly we derive the threshold levels of technical and economic characteristics under which the formation of the shared service center (SSC) can be mutually beneficial for the competing players of experimental research “market”. A comparative analysis of incentives for the creation of SSC in public and in corporate sectors of applied science.

Keywords:
scientific equipment, shared services center, competition, efficiency, win-win cooperation.
