Abstract: This article explores the development of a methodological framework for assessing the economic security of the Russian forest industry complex (FIC) in the context of increasing foreign trade restrictions, the transformation of export geography, and rising logistics costs and technological risks. It is argued that current approaches to assessing the economic security of the FIC rely primarily on disparate financial and economic indicators and fail to systematically account for industry specifics, regional heterogeneity, and institutional and natural-climatic threats. Based on an analysis of contemporary scientific literature, key methodological approaches (systemic-structural and threat-oriented approaches, integration with competitiveness assessment, and consideration of digitalization and investment) are systematized, thereby justifying the transition to a multi-block model for assessing the economic security of the FIC. A proprietary system of indicators is proposed, grouped into five functional blocks: production and technological safety, labor safety, domestic market development safety, financial security, and environmental safety. To ensure comparability of indicators with different units of measurement and ranges of variation, the use of threshold values and a unified scoring scale is proposed, along with an algorithm for calculating integrated indices by group, followed by aggregation into a composite index of forest industry economic security. It has been established that the proposed approach provides a tool for early threat detection, improves the validity of management decisions, and creates a methodological basis for monitoring the long-term sustainability of the forest industry.
