The article considers a case from expert practice, the example of which shows the difficulties that a forensic medical expert may face when determining the cause of death. A diaphragm rupture was not recognized in the victim in a traffic accident during her lifetime, which was a random finding during the examination of the corpse. With a seemingly undoubted effect on the onset of death, the detected damage was not the cause, but only accelerated its onset in a victim with initially severe diseases of the cardiovascular system
