The article is devoted to the reconstruction of the history of international congress of comparative law, the principles and mechanisms for their organization, the evolution of their program, as well as intermediate congresses and other forms of the International Academy of Comparative Law activities. The dynamics and geography of the publication of works of Congress are analyzed. The author concludes that IACL congresses are the form of exercise big-scale international research projects, reconstructs their stages and principles, compares them with projects within other international organizations.

Современная наука является не сферой приложения усилий гениальных одиночек, а организованным извне (государством, международными организациями, корпорациями) и самоорганизованным социальным институтом. Только объединение значительного количества ученых (научный кружок, постоянно действующий дискуссионный клуб, кафедра, отдел в НИИ, конструкторское бюро, редакция журнала, ассоциация и др.), заинтересованных в систематическом исследовании определенных феноменов или ноуменов, способно: конституировать ту или иную сферу исследований как научную дисциплину, достичь согласия относительно парадигмы и направлений исследований, создать каноны научности выбранной дисциплины, критерии и инструменты стимулирования и оценки исследований, эффективно влиять на общественное мнение, общественные и государственные структуры с целью отстаивания коллективных и индивидуальных интересов ученых (создание рабочих мест, доступ к финансовым ресурсам и т.д.).
Известно, что любая организация как социальный институт является не просто суммой своих членов, а постепенно приобретает характер самостоятельного феномена, становится надиндивидуальной, доминирует над индивидом, предлагает ему свои ценности и нормы, определяет его роль, а также корректирует направление и интенсивность его деятельности [9; 10]. Поэтому изучение процесса институционализации научных дисциплин можно рассматривать как перспективное направление исследований.
Наибольшей как по членству, географическому представительству, так и по масштабам деятельности, самой престижной, а также одной из старейших международных организаций в сфере юридической компаративистики является Международная академия сравнительного права, которая в 2014 г. отмечает свое 90-летие.
